Heavy Rain and Flash Floods Warning in Thailand

Meteorological Department Announcement #5 warns of heavy to very heavy rain, strong winds, flash floods, and flash floods in several provinces.

Date: September 23, 2024 – The Meteorological Department has issued an announcement regarding heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand and strong waves in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand.

Heavy to very heavy rain has fallen in some places in the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions of Thailand. The southern region has seen a decrease in rainfall, but some areas are still experiencing heavy rain.

This is due to a strong monsoon depression in the northern, central, and northeastern regions, as well as a strong southwest monsoon. The Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are experiencing weakening winds.

Residents in upper Thailand are advised to be alert to the dangers of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rain, which could cause flash floods and flash floods, especially in mountain slope areas near running waterways and low-lying areas.

Affected Provinces:

  • North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun provinces.
  • Northeast: Loei Province, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani.
  • Central Region: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphanburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.
  • Eastern Region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.
  • South: Ranong and Phang Nga Provinces.

Wind waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are weakening, with waves reaching 2 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand. Boaters are advised to use caution and avoid sailing in areas prone to thunderstorms.

Residents are advised to follow the announcements of the Meteorological Department and stay updated through their website or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours a day.
