Flash Flood Chaos: Khon Kaen Paralyzed by Torrential Downpour and Gridlocked Streets
Khon Kaen International Airport: Passengers Advised to Arrive Early Due to Flooding and Traffic Jams
Heavy rainfall in Khon Kaen has caused flooding and traffic congestion, prompting authorities to advise passengers to arrive at the airport at least 1 hour in advance.
Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding and Disruption
On September 14, 2024, at 9:00, reporters noted that heavy rain fell in the Mueang Khon Kaen district area between 3 and 5 am, causing flooding on several roads. The flood level on Maliwan Road, near the Khon Kaen School for the Blind, reached 50 centimeters, forcing motorcyclists to lift their vehicles to cross the road island.
Traffic Congestion and Travel Disruptions
Especially on the side entering the city, all vehicles must drive in the right lane only, causing traffic jams on both sides. Police officers from Muang Khon Kaen Police Station and Ban Ped Police Station are providing assistance to travelers along this route, which is the main route for traveling to Khon Kaen International Airport.
Relief Efforts and Flood Mitigation
Khon Kaen City Municipality officials have put up a “High flood, no vehicles allowed” sign in front of Northeastern College, while the District 6 Police Station has brought a forklift and officers from the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization to help people living on the Kok Line road.

Weather Forecast and Travel Advisory
Kraisorn Kongchalad, governor of Khon Kaen province, stated that the monsoon depression will move downward in the northeast, upper central, and northeast regions, entering the low-pressure area in central Vietnam. Travelers are advised to allow at least 1 hour of travel time to reach the airport according to their flight schedule.
