FLC’s ‘stillborn’ 5-star golf course in Phu Tho becomes a goat pasture

FLC’s ‘stillborn’ 5-star golf course in Phu Tho becomes a goat pasture

August 29, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Business

After more than a year of being “terminated”, the 5-star eco-tourism resort complex with a luxury golf course of FLC in Phu Tho has become deserted, degraded, and turned into a goat grazing area. Meanwhile, the land area that was recovered to serve the project of many households has not been compensated.

For over a year, Mr. T.D.M’s family and many households in Thuy Van commune (Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province) have continuously complained about the land they live on being reclaimed to serve the Viet Tri Eco-tourism and Sports Area project phase 1 (DEF subdivision) invested by FLC Group Joint Stock Company; However, up to now, although the project has been “terminated” for a long time, they have not received compensation, making their lives difficult.
Specifically, in March 2021, after the People’s Committee of Phu Tho province issued a document approving the first investment policy of the Viet Tri Ecological Urban and Sports Area project, phase 1, Mr. T.D.M’s family and 1,000 households in Van Phu ward, Chu Hoa commune and Thuy Van commune of Viet Tri city received notices of land recovery to implement the project.
By the end of 2021, the People’s Committee of Phu Tho province issued Decision No. 3336 on changing the purpose and allocating land to FLC Group to implement the Viet Tri Ecological Urban and Sports Area Project, Phase 1 (FLC Phu Tho), with an investment capital of more than 4,400 billion VND.
In January 2022, FLC held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project, with the initial goal of building a 5-star Eco-Tourism Resort Complex, with a 15-storey hotel, golf course, high-end commercial resort complex urban area, etc.
Immediately after that, the construction team quickly started building a row of townhouses on Truong Chinh Street, located right at the entrance to Thuy Van Industrial Park,…
According to the project perspective, these are rows of townhouses, inside the rows of houses is the golf course area.
However, just over a year after the investment policy was approved, in May 2022, the People’s Committee of Phu Tho province issued Decision No. 2284 on terminating the project and revoking the Investment Policy Approval and the Decision approving the list of investors meeting the preliminary requirements on capacity and experience in implementing the project.
Accordingly, the project was “terminated” due to some difficulties and problems in the process of project implementation, the investor notified and submitted documents requesting to terminate the project.
However, the project being “terminated” is one thing, but the fact that more than 3 hours away is the residential area of Mr. T.D.M’s family and many other households in Thuy Van commune, despite having received the land reclamation notice, as well as the document on the proposed compensation and support plan when the land is reclamation. But to date, no compensation has been received.
As a result, households are extremely confused, not knowing when their houses and land will be confiscated. Therefore, they do not dare to repair or renovate even though many households’ houses are degraded. On the other hand, households are also unable to buy, sell, or mortgage land for business, making life difficult.
Regarding the FLC Phu Tho project, after more than 1 year of being “terminated”, the once-large project is now covered with grass and trees.
The area originally planned to be a luxury golf course is now a goat grazing area for local people.
Haunting images at FLC’s “stillborn” project.
The row of unfinished townhouses is now flooded all year round and the iron and steel are rusty.
