Fleets Fitness Center: Ontario’s New Community-Driven Gym Experience

Fleets Fitness Center: Ontario’s New Community-Driven Gym Experience

November 30, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Health

Fleets Fitness Center Moves to New Location in Ontario

Fleets Fitness Center has relocated to a larger facility at 2155 Village Mall Drive, previously a Planet Fitness. Owner Harry Stickelman, a professional powerlifter and certified trainer, remarks that the gym is built by its members, for its members. Many members contributed significantly by painting walls and moving equipment during the transition.

Founded in 1983 by Don Van Fleet in Shelby, the gym had moved to Park Avenue West in 1993 due to flooding. Stickelman, who started as a member and employee, purchased the gym in 2016. He values transparency, offering month-to-month memberships without hidden fees.

The new location is about 30,000 square feet, tripling the size of the former facility. It features a workout floor divided into areas for cardio, lifting, and benches. Stickelman emphasizes that members rarely have to wait for equipment, as the gym has over 100 machines and weights available.

Fleets aims to create a welcoming atmosphere, despite the presence of heavy equipment. Stickelman notes that the gym environment is friendly and encourages interaction among members. The gym seeks input from its members about new equipment, making it a community-driven space.

Fleets offers a week-long free trial with no membership commitment and day passes for $7. Membership costs $40/month for individuals and $75/month for families. The gym is open 24/7 for members, with staffed hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.

In addition to its workout areas, Fleets has a sauna, a supplements shop, and larger bathrooms. Plans to develop a strongman room are underway to meet growing interest in that sport. Stickelman also intends to host powerlifting meets and other gym events, inviting the community to experience the gym’s offerings.

Fleets Fitness Center is available for contact via phone at 419-529-4778 and can be found online and on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
