Protecting Vulnerable Groups
The autumn vaccination campaign for 2025 is now underway, with a focus on safeguarding vulnerable populations against both COVID-19 and influenza (the flu). General practitioners and other healthcare providers are central to the success of this initiative.
COVID-19 Vaccination Details
This fall, the Comirnaty LP 8.1 vaccine, specifically formulated to target currently circulating COVID-19 variants, will be administered. The target groups for COVID-19 vaccination remain consistent with last year’s recommendations. The recommended vaccination window extends from mid-September to the end of October.
Residential care facilities can begin ordering vaccines from September 1st and commence vaccinations on September 17th.Other vaccinators can place orders starting September 8th, with vaccinations beginning on September 30th. To manage anticipated high demand during the week of September 8th-14th, orders placed during this period will be prioritized for delivery no later than September 29th.
Influenza Vaccination Details
The recommended timeframe for flu vaccination is mid-October through the end of November. The optimal period for administering both the COVID-19 and influenza vaccines simultaneously is between October 15th and October 31st. The Flemish goverment will provide free flu vaccines to residents of designated residential institutions. Individuals in other eligible groups can access flu vaccines through their local pharmacy.
