Flensburg Flies High: SG Flensburg Secures Top Spot in Group G, Advances to European League Handball Main Round

SG Flensburg-Handewitt (Germany) advanced to the main round of the European League.

SG Flensburg defeated MOL Tatabanya KC Hungary 39-29 in the 4th round match of Group G of the 2024/25 EHF Men’s European League group stage held at Tatabanyai Multifunkcios Csarnok, Hungary on the 29th (local time). I broke it.

With this, SG Flensburg confirmed its advancement to the main round with two more rounds remaining. Flensburg won 44-27 at home against Tatabanya, and also won away by 10 goals, failing to exceed 40 goals for the first time. In this day’s game, attention was focused on whether Flensburg would score more than 40 goals for four consecutive games, but the goal was not reached.

Although the two teams had similar opportunities to shoot as Flensburg had many turnovers, SG Flensburg had a success rate of 70% (39/56), while Tatabanya had a success rate of 51% (29/57). There was a 10 goal difference.

Until the 18th minute, Flensburg was ahead by 3 or 4 goals, but scored 5 goals in a row in nearly 7 minutes to go up 19-12. Although Flensburg made a mistake, goalkeeper Möller Kevin made three saves and held off the opponent’s attack for seven minutes. In the end, the first half ended 21-15.

Flensburg did not slow down their offensive in the second half, increasing the lead to 27-17, or 10 goals, in the 37th minute, and in the 48th minute, they ran away to 33-21, the largest gap in the game, effectively deciding the game. In the remaining 12 minutes, Tatabanya was able to narrow the score to two goals, and Plensborg finished with a 39-29 lead.

“We are happy to have secured two points and advanced from the group,” Flensburg coach Nicolej Krickau told the European Handball Confederation. This was what was expected of us, and fortunately we achieved it. “We came here and did what we had to do,” he said.
