The European League participants secured their third victory in three matches, though head coach Aleš Pajović’s side still showed areas for improvement in defense during the early stages of the campaign.

First-Half Dominance and Flensburg’s Backcourt Power

The hosts brought their individual class to the court right from the opening whistle, quickly building a five-goal lead at 15-10 after 20 minutes, as reported by NDR. Erlangen struggled to contain the physical backcourt power of Flensburg, particularly center back Aymeric Minne, Simon Pytlick, and Domen Novak. Supported by goalkeeper Benjamin Burić, the Schleswig-Holstein team controlled the tempo through the early phases. However, Erlangen tightened up their defensive formation as the half progressed, exploiting some early lack of coordination in Flensburg’s defense to narrow the gap to 23-20 by halftime.

Erlangen’s Second-Half Surges and Flensburg’s Response

After the break, goalkeeper Simon Möller took over the SG net from Burić and immediately made an impact, helping stretch the lead back to 25-20, according to NDR coverage. Despite the changes, Erlangen refused to fade, trimming the deficit to 25-23 by the 37th minute and later threatening at 34-31 with goals from players including Marek Nissen and Frieder Bandlow. Head coach Aleš Pajović kept his composure on the sideline, maintaining trust in his squad as they regularly found attacking answers through Emil Jakobsen—who finished with 10 goals—and Pytlick, who added 9.

Upcoming Schedule in the Handball-Bundesliga

While Flensburg successfully neutralized Erlangen’s late pushes to close out the 38-33 win, NDR notes that tougher tests lie ahead for the North Germans.
