Floating Restaurant in Malaysia Swept Away by Flood, Owner Faces Rp 2.8 Billion Loss
Floating Restaurant in Malaysia Faces Devastation
A floating restaurant in Malaysia has suffered significant damage due to severe weather conditions. JL Fara Houseboat, owned by Fara in Kota Bharu, was known for its delicious seafood and scenic views of the river. However, recent storms caused a large tree to fall on the building, leading to its near-submersion in the river.
Fara shared her distress about the situation in a TikTok video, which gained over 3 million views. The storm damaged the restaurant’s kitchen and swept away both the restaurant and her private structure. Fara explained that her floating restaurant was a significant investment, worth approximately RM 1.2 million or around Rp 4.2 billion.
The trouble began when bad weather hit Kelantan. Fara described how they struggled through the night as the water levels rose and the current became stronger, making it impossible for the restaurant to stay afloat.
Despite efforts to salvage the situation, significant losses occurred. Fara’s husband, Mohd Izhan Ramli, reported damage totaling RM 800,000 (approximately Rp 2.8 billion). Many fresh supplies were lost, including king crab, and they had to cancel reservations to address the damage.
Fortunately, local authorities and residents assisted in recovering the restaurant from the river, but the future remains uncertain as they work to restore their business after this devastating event.
