Flock to Ailao Mountain: Hundreds of Birds Converge for a Spectacular Season of Bird Watching
Another Year of Bird Watching Season: Hundreds of Birds Gather in Ailao Mountain
As autumn gets darker, thousands of birds migrate from the Dazhongshan area of Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve, creating a spectacular annual landscape. Majie Town, Nanhua County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, has become an important passage for migratory birds returning south. Partridges, noisy babblers, cuckoos, egrets and other birds can be seen everywhere. Tens of thousands of birds form a “ladder” in the sky, attracting many photography enthusiasts to take photos and record this spectacular natural wonder.

Ailaoshan National Nature Reserve is an important biodiversity reserve in Yunnan. According to the 2017 ”Comprehensive Scientific Survey Report on Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve”, a total of 3,699 species of wild animals and plants were recorded in the reserve, including 418 species of birds in 56 families. This area provides an important ecological barrier for the migration and habitat of migratory birds, and has become a “stop” for birds migrating north and south.

The autumnal equinox has passed, and northern migratory birds have begun their large-scale migration southward. Resident birds from various places are also stepping up their final breeding season to adapt to seasonal changes. In the process, Ailaoshan Nature Reserve has become an important crossing point and breeding ground for birds.

In order to better protect these precious wild birds, 26 wildlife monitoring lines have been established in the Chuxiong Prefecture of Ailaoshan National Nature Reserve and 260 infrared cameras have been installed to continuously monitor wildlife activities. This scientific monitoring system helps to study the migration patterns of birds and habitat protection, and provides important data support for the protection of the ecological environment.

The local natural resources department calls on tourists and photography enthusiasts to keep a safe distance when taking bird watching photos, not to disturb the normal activities of birds, and to jointly protect this beautiful ecological environment. The “hundreds of birds paying homage to the phoenix” landscape in Ailao Mountain is not only a beautiful picture of nature’s gifts, but also a vivid reflection of biodiversity conservation efforts. In this vast mountain forest, the story of harmonious coexistence between man and nature continues.
