Flood Alert: Chiang Rai on High Alert as Mae Sai Braces for More Rainfall, Ministry of Interior Takes Swift Action
Flood Situation in Chiang Rai: Water Levels Drop, but Caution Advised in Mae Sai
The permanent secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Suthiphong Chulcaroen, visited the flood-affected areas in Chiang Rai to monitor the situation. The water level of the Kok River has dropped by over 1 meter, but small vehicles are still unable to pass through the Mueang Chiang Rai district area.
Mr. Suthiphong reported that the roads around the Mueang Chiang Rai district area are still impassable due to mud and debris. However, the overall situation in the province has improved, especially for residents in alley areas who were previously inaccessible due to strong currents.
Once the water levels stabilize, officials will provide immediate assistance to affected areas. The Disaster Relief Center of Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Organization and the Chiang Rai Red Cross Society will also help improve living conditions in the Wat Rong Suea Ten area.
In Mae Sai District, the situation has improved significantly, but the Mae Sai River’s water level remains high due to last night’s rainfall. The area requires close monitoring, and the Sailom Joy Market is still inaccessible due to strong currents.

Mr. Suthiphong emphasized that recovery efforts will begin once the water recedes in some areas. However, this cannot be done in the entire area due to irregular water levels. The route from Phayao province to Chiang Rai province via Phan district is now open to traffic.
Mr. Suthiphong expressed his gratitude to the citizens who are still waiting for aid and acknowledged the efforts of volunteers, local government organizations, soldiers, police, and government sectors in helping those affected. He encouraged those in need to call the Damrongtham Center, Chiang Rai Province, at 1567 or the security hotline 1784 for assistance.
