Flood Fury: Budameru Overflows, 21 Villages Underwater
Eluru Flood Situation: Officials Inspect Affected Areas and Ensure Public Safety
Eluru: In response to the recent flooding in Eluru, a team of officials led by Eluru Range IG GVG Ashok Kumar and SP K Pratap Shiva Kishore, along with Eluru DSP D Shravan Kumar, visited several villages under Pedapadu mandal to assess the situation and provide assistance to affected residents.
During their visit to Pata Pedapadu village’s Koniki, Satyavolu, Naidu Gudem, Vaddi Gudem, and Gudipadu village, the officials inspected the field-level situation of floodwater and interacted with local residents. IG Ashok Kumar explained that the flooding in many villages in Pedapadu mandal was caused by water from Budameru entering Kolleru lake.
IG Ashok Kumar provided instructions to the staff of the State Disaster Rescue Force in Pedapadu mandal, emphasizing the need to relocate people living in low-lying areas to safe places and rehabilitation centers established by the revenue department. He also offered suggestions and guidance to ensure a smooth evacuation process.
Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar briefed the IG on the current situation, stating that three villages in Pedapadu mandal and 18 villages in Eluru mandal had been affected by the flooding so far. IG Ashok Kumar attributed the excessive water inflow in the areas to heavy to very heavy rains in the upper regions, which caused Budameru and other rivulets to overflow in Kolleru catchment areas.
To minimize inconvenience to the public, people living in low-lying areas have been shifted to rehabilitation centers with the help of revenue staff. Basic amenities are being provided in these centers to ensure the well-being of the affected residents.
A team of senior officials, including Krishna district SP R Gangadhar Rao, Eluru district SP KS Pratap Shiva Kishore, and West Godavari district SP Adnan Nayeem Ahmi, are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any trouble to the public.
Other officials who participated in the inspection and relief efforts include Eluru One Town Inspector Satyanarayana, Pedavegi Inspector Nabi, Pedapadu SI Subha Shekhar, and police personnel, as well as SDRF staff.
