Eastern Ireland Braces for intense Rainfall and Thunderstorms
A Status Orange rain and thunderstorm warning has been issued by Met Éireann for counties Dublin, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow, effective on Monday. The national meteorological service forecasts persistent and heavy rain, accompanied by a risk of thunderstorms, which is expected to continue untill 2 PM. The potential impacts are severe, including widespread surface flooding, hazardous travelling conditions, damage from lightning strikes, and substantially reduced visibility.
Northern Ireland Under Amber and Yellow Alerts
Across the border, the UK Met Office has implemented an amber alert for counties Antrim, Armagh, and Down, which came into effect at 11 PM on Sunday and will remain in place until 8 AM on Monday. This alert warns of “very heavy rainfall” with a significant potential for flooding. A further yellow rain alert has also been issued for these same three counties, extending until 6 PM on Monday.
Yellow Warnings Extend to Kildare and Monaghan
Met Éireann has also placed a status Yellow warning on counties Kildare and Monaghan, which is in effect until 2 PM on Monday. Residents in these areas can expect spells of heavy rain, with a possibility of isolated thunderstorms. The forecast indicates a risk of localised flooding, poor visibility, and challenging travel conditions.
Outlook for the Week: Mixed Conditions Ahead
While the eastern counties bear the brunt of the severe weather on Monday, other parts of the Republic of Ireland are expected to experience drier conditions, albeit with some isolated showers.Later on Monday afternoon, the rain in the east is predicted to ease and become more scattered. Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 15 to 20 degrees celsius, with moderate, occasionally fresh, northwesterly winds.

By Thursday evening, outbreaks of rain and drizzle are forecast to develop along the western and southwestern fringes. Temperatures on Thursday coudl reach highs of 18 to 22 degrees Celsius.
Friday is set to begin with a cloudy start and scattered showers, but sunny spells are expected to emerge later in the day, with temperatures rising to highs of around 20 degrees Celsius.
The weekend forecast suggests plenty of dry weather on Saturday, featuring sunny spells and showers. Though,there is a possibility of more persistent rain returning on Sunday.
