Floodwaters of Fury: Death Toll Surges to Six as Disaster Unfolds
Floods in Galați County Claim Sixth Victim
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) announced on Sunday evening that one more person was found dead in the town of Suhurlui in Galați County, bringing the total number of victims due to flooding in the last few days to six. The floods were caused by severe hydrometeorological phenomena affecting several areas.
Following the manifestation of the hydrometeorological phenomena highlighted in the previous days, a deceased victim was identified in the Suhurlui area of Galati County. IGSU was informed.
Firefighters from Galați, along with rescue teams from other counties, including Braila, Bucharest-Ilfov, Vrancea, Dâmbovița, Gorj, Brașov, and Teleorman, intervened to limit the effects of these devastating floods. Rescue and protection operations for the affected communities are ongoing.
Around 260 military firefighters intervened in the flood in Galati, with 15 fire engines and trucks, as well as with 24 motor pumps. 273 people were rescued from the affected homes. The main areas affected by the flood are Pechea, Cudalbi, Costache Negri, Slobozia Conachi, and Cuza Vodă, where the population asked to evacuate the water from the yards, as they are registered people stuck at home due to the water and alluvium resulting from the flood, along with the need for transport to the hospital against a background of various medical conditions.
