Florence to Host ‘City of Readers’ Festival, Exploring Classics and Contemporary Literature
Florence will become a hub for literary enthusiasts from June 4-8, as the “City of Readers” festival celebrates its eighth edition at Villa Bardini. Organized by the Wimbledon APS Association with management by Gabriele Ametrano, the festival promises a diverse program featuring both Italian and international authors, performances, and discussions centered around the theme of “the classics.”
Literary Performances and Discussions
The festival will feature unique literary shows, including a performance by writer and screenwriter Francesco piccolo. He will present a monologue adapted from his work “I am here: M’ammazzi,” offering a reinterpretation of thirteen classic works that have shaped perceptions of the arrogant, violent male figure, ranging from Boccaccio’s “Decameron” to Italo Svevo’s “Zeno’s Conscience” (June 5).
Journalist Beppe Severgnini, accompanied by the D&B White Socks Quintet, will present “Socrates, Agata and the Future” (Rizzoli) on June 5. The presentation will be a dialogue in music, reflecting on the passage of time and the complexities of the current era.
Art historians Roberta Scorranese and Claudio Pescio will deliver a lecture on the representation of the body in art, drawing from their respective publications (June 8).
