Tulane University’s baseball team secured a 6-5 victory over Florida Atlantic on April 17, 2026, in a tightly contested non-conference matchup held at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans.
The Green Wave improved to 22-15 overall with the win, breaking a two-game losing streak and gaining momentum as they prepare for American Athletic Conference play. Florida Atlantic, now 18-20 on the season, saw their late-inning rally fall just short despite loading the bases in the top of the seventh.
We battled all game and found a way to scratch across the runs we needed when it mattered most. That’s what competitive baseball looks like in April — gritty, timely hits and smart base running.
Head Coach Jay Uhlman, Tulane Athletics
The turning point came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Tulane broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run surge. Designated hitter Matthias Haas led off the inning with a sharp single through the right side of the infield. After a sacrifice bunt advanced him to second, Jason Wachs followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Haas and giving Tulane a 4-3 lead. Two batters later, a two-out double by catcher Daniel Martinez plated Wachs and extended the advantage to 5-3.
Florida Atlantic responded in the top of the seventh with a two-run inning to cut the deficit to 5-5. Leadoff hitter Tyler Santos drew a walk, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Ricardo Lopez. After a strikeout, pinch hitter Marcus Delgado singled to left, putting runners on the corners with one out. A ground ball up the middle by shortstop Adrian Ruiz scored Lopez to tie the game, but the ensuing double play ended the threat.
Tulane answered immediately in the bottom of the frame. Starting pitcher Liam Hennessey, who had allowed five runs over five and two-thirds innings, was relieved by right-hander Eli Torres. Torres retired the side in order, setting up the walk-off opportunity. Leadoff batter Ethan Reed drew a five-pitch walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. With two outs, designated hitter Matthias Haas lined a two-strike pitch just past the diving first baseman for his second hit of the game, scoring Reed and sealing the 6-5 win.
Haas finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Wachs went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. On the mound, Torres earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, striking out two and walking one. Hennessey took the loss despite a strong effort, dropping to 4-4 with a 4.82 ERA.
The victory marks Tulane’s third win in its last five games and keeps them within striking distance of the AAC standings as conference play intensifies. Florida Atlantic, meanwhile, will look to rebound in its upcoming series against nationally ranked Miami.
