Five-Star JaReylan McCoy Chooses Florida, Elevating 2026 Recruiting Class
Tupelo, Miss. native JaReylan McCoy, a five-star defensive end, has committed to the University of Florida, sources said Saturday. The 6-foot-7, 260-pound prospect is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 2 ranked defender,solidifying his role as the top-ranked recruit in the Gators’ 2026 class.
McCoy, who plays at Tupelo High School, had more than 140 tackles and 18.5 sacks over three seasons.His commitment is a major recruiting victory for Florida coach Billy Napier.
Initially committed to Louisiana State University (LSU),McCoy reopened his recruitment in Febuary. He narrowed his choices to Florida, LSU, and the University of Texas before ultimately choosing the Gators after an official visit from May 30 to June 1.
Sources indicate that McCoy’s connection with napier and defensive ends coach Mike Peterson, along with the program’s “family atmosphere,” influenced his decision. He canceled a scheduled visit to Texas to return to Florida, sealing his pledge Saturday.
McCoy is the frist five-star addition since quarterback DJ Lagway and pass rusher L.J. McCray in the 2024 class. He is the highest-ranked defensive signee since CeCe Jefferson in 2015.
McCoy now ranks ahead of four-star quarterback Will Griffin and running back Carsyn Baker as the top-ranked of five ESPN 300 prospects in Florida’s 2026 class. The Gators also secured a commitment from four-star wide receiver Marquez Daniel on Saturday, bringing their total to seven ESPN 300 commits.
