ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is experiencing a rare and intense cold snap, with temperatures plummeting into the 20s on Sunday, a level of cold not seen since 2010. The frigid weather has resulted in snow flurries in several parts of the state, frozen fountains, and even falling iguanas, according to reports.
News 6 viewers are sharing images of the unusual weather and their preparations for the cold using PinIt!, providing a glimpse into the impact of the freeze across the region. Digital Journalist Jacob Langston captured a photograph of a tree in Winter Springs still covered in ice at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday.
The cold blast isn’t limited to Central Florida. Snow flurries were reported in multiple locations across the state on Saturday, including Tallahassee, White Springs, Jacksonville, Williston, Alachua County, Citrus County, Hernando County, and Tampa, as confirmed by the National Weather Service. While some reports from Orlando and Central Florida suggest snow flurries, meteorologists believe these may be drizzle, sprinkles, or ice pellets.
The extreme cold has also impacted agriculture. A farm in Clermont, Southern Hill Farms, was covered in mounds of ice after its irrigation system apparently broke overnight, threatening berry crops. Farmers are actively working to protect their crops from the freezing temperatures.
Residents are also dealing with the effects of the cold. Dianne Turner of Interlachen shared a photo describing the “nip in the air,” while David Owen in Lake Nona sent in a picture of a frozen fountain. Trooper Steve from News 6 reported that a neighbor in Lake Mary left their sprinklers on, resulting in a branch of a plant being encased in ice.
Further south, the cold is extending as far as Miami, where temperatures could reach levels not seen in 16 years. It will be the coldest stretch for many in Florida in 15 years, and could even trigger some ocean-effect snow flurries along the state’s Gulf coast.
The National Weather Service shared video of snow flurries around 4:45 a.m. On Sunday in Tampa. Michael Ridge in Groveland shared a video of a sprinkler system used to protect trees and a playhouse from the freezing temperatures.
Caitlin in Eustis shared a photo of preparations to keep her home warm. Mike Gerard in Historic Downtown Ocala also sent in a photo of a frozen fountain.
The cold snap is expected to continue into Monday, February 2, 2026, prompting continued warnings and preparations across the Sunshine State.
