The Florida Gators baseball team secured a 6-3 victory over the No. 13 Auburn Tigers in the series opener on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville, Florida. The win improved Florida’s record to 28-11 overall and 10-6 in Southeastern Conference play, while Auburn fell to 25-12 overall and 8-8 in SEC games.
Aidan King delivered a strong starting performance for the Gators, pitching six innings and recording eight strikeouts while allowing only three hits and two walks. After giving up an early run in the first inning, King retired the side in order in each of the next five innings, improving his win-loss record to 6-2 on the season.
Florida struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Karson Bowen hit an RBI double down the left-field line, scoring Ethan Surowiec to tie the game at 1-1 after Auburn had taken an early lead. The Tigers had jumped ahead in the top of the inning when Luis Gregorio singled through the left side with two outs, driving in a run after advancing on errors and a fielder’s choice.
The Gators took control in the third inning when senior outfielder Blake Cyr hit a three-run home run over the left-field wall, extending Florida’s lead to 4-1. The home run came on a 0-1 count and cleared the fence with Surowiec and Lawson scoring ahead of Cyr.
Florida added two more runs in the fifth inning as Kyle Jones hit a two-run double to right field, scoring Kurland and Stripling to make it 6-1. Auburn managed to score two runs in the eighth inning on a pair of two-out RBI singles by McCraine and Madrigal, but could not get any closer as Ernesto Lugo-Canchola and Joshua Whritenour combined to close out the game, with Whritenour earning his seventh save of the season.
The victory marked Florida’s second win over a top-15 opponent in the 2026 season and gave the Gators momentum heading into the second game of the series against Auburn on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. On SEC Network.
