A Florida honeymoon turned tragic when a 29-year-old man was fatally struck by lightning at New Smyrna Beach on June 20. The man,who was wading in ankle-deep water,was caught in a sudden storm,becoming the state’s first lightning-related fatality this year.
Volusia County sheriff Mike Chitwood expressed his condolences on Facebook, saying, “Saying a prayer for this young man and his wife… In one terrifying second everything changed.” He also thanked first responders for their efforts.
