Florida State Beach Volleyball Opens 2025 Season in Hattiesburg, Mississippi

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi – The 6th-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team begins its 2025 season with a bang in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Participating in the Beach Burg Invitational, which commences Friday, the Seminoles are slated to compete against North Alabama, No. 8 LSU, Spring Hill College, FGCU, and Southern Miss over the course of the two-day tournament.

Florida State is coming off a stellar 2024 season, where they finished with a 31-8 record, secured their seventh CCSA championship and maintained an undefeated 13-0 record at home. They made an impressive appearance in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The team is buoyed by the return of key players Alexis Durish, Audrey Koenig, and Anna Long, all named to the 2024 CCSA All-Conference Team. Coach Brooke Niles, who guided her Semenoles to success, has entered the 2025 season with 263 career wins, cementing her status as the winningest coach in NCAA beach volleyball history. “We are very excited to start the season with such a strong lineup and look forward to a competitive tournament,” said Koenig.

On Friday, Florida State starts their campaign against North Alabama at 11:40 a.m. This game is particularly significant as the Seminoles lead the all-time series 1-0, having last defeated the Lions on April 5, 2024. North Alabama closed the 2024 season with a respectable 22-13 record, advancing to the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament before exiting against FGCU.

Following their first match, the Seminoles will face No. 8 LSU at 1:50 p.m. The rivalry between FSU and LSU is well-established, with the Seminoles leading the series 25-3. Concluding Friday’s schedule, the Seminoles will play against Spring Hill College at 8:20 p.m. This is the first meeting in program history between the two teams. Spring Hill finished the 2024 season strong, recording an 18-16 record and claiming the bronze bracket in the AVCA Small College Beach Championship.

On Saturday, the Seminoles begin their day against FGCU at 11:10 a.m., holding a commanding 6-0 all-time series lead over the Eagles. Florida State last defeated FGCU in Boca Raton on March 12, 2024. FGCU concluded the 2024 season with a 17-20 record, making it to the ASUN Tournament semifinals.

The weekend will wrap up with a game against Southern Miss at 3:30 p.m. Florida State leads the all-time series against the Golden Eagles 5-0, their most recent victory a 5-0 sweep on April 7, 2023. Southern Miss had a challenging 2024 season, finishing with a 14-24 record.
