Florida continues to experience a surge in reported unidentified aerial phenomena, with several sightings documented in recent months. While no confirmed crashes have occurred, the frequency of these reports, coupled with a notable incident on the Florida Turnpike in August 2021, has solidified the state’s reputation as a hotspot for unexplained aerial events.

Recent Sightings Across the State

The latest data, compiled by UFOIndex.com, reveals a series of sightings reported across Florida. On February 3, 2026, a witness in Jensen Beach reported observing two unusual spots in the sky while taking a photograph from the causeway. Zooming in on the image, the witness identified what appeared to be two distinct objects. Prior to this, on December 14, 2025, a resident of Palm Coast described witnessing an orb-like object stall briefly before moving towards the ocean. The sighting lasted approximately one second.

Earlier in November 2025, multiple reports emerged from different parts of the state. In Arcadia, on November 14th, an observer noted a bright red object moving southward, trailing what appeared to be fire-like trails. The witness initially suspected the object might be a plane experiencing difficulties. A few days later, on November 7th, a large triangular craft was reported flying north then east over Palm Bay, accompanied by an unusual humming sound, distinct from typical aircraft engine noise. South Bradenton saw a particularly unusual report on November 1st, with a witness describing “almost a swarm” of objects changing shapes and visibility, captured in both photographs and video.

October 2025 also saw a cluster of sightings. In Fellsmere, on October 23rd, a singular white light was observed moving north at a 45-degree angle before disappearing. Shortly after, a second white light appeared. Also on October 23rd, a witness in Brooksville reported a bright reddish-orange light that held its position before moving away. Earlier in the month, on October 8th, a dark black triangular object was observed moving from north to south over Fort Myers.

Highway Incident and Historical Context

The recent surge in reports echoes a similar incident that occurred on the Florida Turnpike in Dade County in August 2021. Drivers reported witnessing an object “floating alongside traffic,” a phenomenon captured on video and widely circulated on social media. While the nature of the object remains unidentified, the incident contributed to the growing number of UFO sightings reported in Florida.

Florida has a long history of reported UFO encounters. According to available records, the state consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for such reports, with over 90 incidents recorded in 2021 alone. A notable historical event occurred in the South Florida Everglades in August 1952, when scoutmaster D.S. “Sonny” DesVergers claimed an encounter with an unidentified flying object after emerging from a palmetto grove.

Unique Winter Phenomenon: Falling Iguanas

While the state grapples with unexplained aerial phenomena, Florida is also experiencing a more terrestrial, albeit unusual, event: falling iguanas. A recent cold snap, with temperatures dropping into the 20s and 30s across the state, has caused green iguanas – an invasive species – to become “cold-stunned” and lose their grip, falling from trees. Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham of AccuWeather explained that iguanas are sensitive to cold temperatures and can become immobilized when temperatures fall below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Experts emphasize that the iguanas are often not dead and may regain mobility as temperatures rise.

Cloud Formation Over Amelia Island

Adding to the list of unusual occurrences, a strange cloud formation was recently spotted over Amelia Island, Florida, sparking curiosity and speculation among local residents. Details regarding the nature of the cloud formation remain limited, but the event has generated discussion on local forums, with opinions ranging from playful interpretations to more serious concerns about unidentified objects.

The confluence of these events – UFO sightings, the highway incident, the unusual cold-weather impact on iguanas, and the peculiar cloud formation – underscores Florida’s reputation as a state prone to unusual and unexplained phenomena. The continued reporting of unidentified aerial phenomena, in particular, raises questions about the nature of these objects and the potential for further investigation.
