Flowing Words: Kim Myeong-suk’s Poetic Journey to the River’s Edge

Flowing Words: Kim Myeong-suk’s Poetic Journey to the River’s Edge

September 26, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Entertainment

River water reaches the dam Kim Myeong-suk

I went to the river when it rained

The river water

Gradually widening the river width that was reduced due to drought

Towards the riverbank where the white hagfish was exposed

It started to crawl up little by little.

The riverbed, which was split open like a rock, soon became covered with rivulets.

A few crabs survived

I go in and out of my hole and go to Busan

The lively blades of grass lie down in the wind and rise again.

I am pacifying the turbulent mud flats

The river that began to embrace everything

After tossing and turning my swollen body a few times,

Head towards the riverbank

It seems that the dam also missed water.

As the water slowly rose up and reached the dam,

It makes a rustling sound as if it is happy

Embrace the long waist of water

I looked at that sight for a long time

I miss that person too

Nongdari Kim Myeong-suk

You are on the other side

I’m on the other side

We’ve been facing each other for a long time

Spring is coming

Under the stone bridge

The water in the stream flows

Each branch is bright with flowers

You are on the other side

I’m on the other side

In the wind, rain and fog

Like water that doesn’t overflow

Like a stone that doesn’t move

You’re just looking at me like that
