Who is Eligible for Free Vaccination?
the Health Service Executive (HSE) is advising several groups to receive the free flu vaccination as the flu season begins. These include people with chronic illnesses, healthcare workers, pregnant women, and individuals over the age of sixty. Children and young people aged two to seventeen are also eligible for the flu jab.
Where to Get Vaccinated
The HSE recommends visiting your local General Practitioner (GP) or pharmacy to receive the vaccination. Vaccination teams will also administer the vaccine to residents of residential care facilities, such as nursing homes, and to housebound patients. Healthcare worker vaccination clinics will be held in workplaces throughout the country.
Why Vaccination is Crucial
According to the HSE, both flu and COVID-19 are serious illnesses that can lead to severe complications, hospitalizations, and even death. Vaccination is considered the most effective way to protect yourself and others.
Last winter, approximately 6,500 people were hospitalized with the flu, and over 2,000 were hospitalized with COVID-19. Vaccination offers the best possible protection against serious illness and hospitalization, according to the HSE.
