by Victoria Sterling -Business Editor

Dubai-based airline flydubai is expanding its presence in Thailand with the launch of a double-daily service to Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) beginning . The new route, operating from Terminal 3 at Dubai International (DXB), will increase the carrier’s total weekly flights to Thailand to 28, complementing existing services to Krabi.

According to a recent operational schedule filing, flydubai will utilize Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for both daily flights. The schedule, effective the week of , details the following flight times: FZ1345 departs DXB at 0120, arriving at DMK at 1110; FZ1335 departs DXB at 1100, arriving at DMK at 2045. Return flights are scheduled as FZ1346, departing DMK at 1210 and arriving at DXB at 1540, and FZ1336, departing DMK at 2350 and arriving at DXB at 0320 the following day.

The expansion underscores flydubai’s commitment to growing connectivity between Dubai and Southeast Asia, a region experiencing robust demand for both leisure and business travel. Hamad Obaidalla, Chief Commercial Officer at flydubai, stated the launch reflects “continued demand across our network and underscores our commitment to providing our customers with more convenient and flexible travel options.” The airline’s strategy leverages Dubai’s position as a global aviation hub, offering passengers seamless connections through DXB from destinations across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Europe, and beyond, often in codeshare arrangements with Emirates.

Don Mueang International Airport, one of Bangkok’s two international airports, serves as a key gateway for travelers to the Thai capital and surrounding regions. Its location north of the city center provides convenient access for both business and leisure travelers. The addition of these flights positions flydubai to capitalize on Thailand’s popularity as a tourist destination.

This move comes as flydubai continues to broaden its network, now spanning over 135 destinations. The airline’s growth is intrinsically linked to Dubai’s ambition to solidify its role as a leading global aviation hub. The double-daily Bangkok service is the carrier’s fourth destination in Southeast Asia, joining Krabi in Thailand, and Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia.

While the schedule filing indicates a planned launch, flydubai notes that further changes are possible. This is typical in the airline industry, where schedules are subject to adjustments based on demand, operational considerations, and regulatory approvals. The airline’s decision to announce the schedule now, several months in advance, suggests a high degree of confidence in the route’s viability.

The launch of the double-daily service to Bangkok represents a strategic move for flydubai, allowing it to tap into a significant and growing travel market. The airline’s focus on providing convenient connections through Dubai, coupled with its expanding network, positions it for continued growth in the region. The use of the 737 MAX 8 aircraft suggests a focus on operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness on the route.
