FM Championship: A Unique Golf Tournament Experience
Beyond the Fairway: The FM Championship‘s People-First Approach
TPC BOSTON, Mass. – As a veteran golf journalist, I’ve seen countless tournaments, but the FM Championship is something special. It’s more than just a competition; it’s a festivity of golf’s power to inspire and connect.
My week began at the Titleist Performance Center, where the LPGA Leadership Academy was in full swing. Forty young women from across the country were honing their skills and building confidence under the guidance of passionate instructors. The energy was infectious, with strangers cheering each other on as they navigated the clinic stations. Megan Khang shared her experiences on the LPGA Tour, offering invaluable insights to the aspiring golfers.
Later, at Gillette Stadium, the Pro-Am Pairings Party brought together pros and amateurs for an evening of mingling and speeches from LPGA Commissioner Kraig Kessler, FM CEO Malcolm Roberts, and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. It was a reminder that golf is a community, and the FM Championship is at its heart.
Commissioner Kessler emphasized that the FM Championship is a “can’t-miss” event for players, thanks to its competitive purse, missed cut stipend, hotel and airfare credits, recovery room, and player-focused dinners. These details make a huge difference to the pros, who are visibly happy to be there.
The tournament’s commitment to inclusivity extends to the fans. Hundreds of FM colleagues volunteer, and fans of all ages have flocked to TPC Boston to watch the world’s best players.
One of the most unique aspects of the FM Championship is its two-tiered driving range. while the pros warm up on the upper level, the lower level is dedicated to the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Clinic. Dozens of kids play games, make friends, and receive hands-on instruction from LPGA teaching professionals.
The FM Championship is a testament to the power of golf to bring people together, inspire the next generation, and create a sense of community. It’s a reminder that golf is more than just a game; it’s a force for good.
