Apple’s Potential Foldable Phone: Rumors and Expectations

Recent reports from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman suggest Apple is exploring a foldable phone design, potentially launching a device with a “book-like” format to compete with Samsung and Google. This device is rumored to feature four photo sensors and utilize Touch ID for authentication instead of Face ID.

According to Gurman, the foldable iPhone may also eliminate the physical SIM card tray, adopting an eSIM-only approach, similar to the latest iPhone models sold in the United States. A key innovation could be Apple’s new “C2” modem, designed to improve battery life and network connectivity. The previous generation, the “C1” modem, debuted in the iPhone 16.

The biggest challenge for any foldable phone manufacturer remains the visibility of the screen crease. While Samsung and Motorola have made strides in reducing its prominence, a truly seamless foldable display remains elusive.

The Shift to eSIM Technology

Apple’s potential move to an eSIM-only design aligns with a broader industry trend. eSIMs offer several advantages over conventional physical SIM cards, including increased security, the ability to easily switch carriers, and the potential for smaller device designs. however,the transition to eSIMs isn’t without challenges,as it requires carrier support and may not be ideal for travelers who frequently switch between countries.
