The green and white-striped jersey belongs to Cwmbran Celtic FC, a semi-professional club based in Wales. Chatten sported the kit in front of tens of thousands of festivalgoers during the band’s performance. Club staff admitted they never expected the lead singer to wear the shirt on stage, initially believing it would only be worn backstage after a friend working as the band’s monitor engineer passed a size 3XL shirt to the frontman.

Partnership Supporting Grassroots Music

The shirt is part of a 2026/27 kit initiative launched by Cwmbran Celtic in partnership with four distinct musical acts, including Super Furry Animals, Panic Shack, and Loose Articles. Scottish post-rock band Mogwai also features on the shirt as a primary sponsor, a detail that resonated strongly with Chatten.

According to BBC Wales, sales from the kit support both the football club and independent music venues, with 10% of all profits directed to the Music Venues Trust. Chatten explained his support for the venture in a statement, saying I love Cwmbran and I love initiatives that support independent venues. He added, Cwmbran Celtic is a club run by volunteers who have a sense of solidarity with the plight independent music venues are facing. I think that’s class. Also I love Mogwai.

Surge in Pre-Sale Orders

The unexpected festival placement triggered an immediate commercial boost for the grassroots club. Matt Jarrett, joint commercial manager for Cwmbran Celtic who also owns a record store in Newport, stated that pre-sale orders have almost doubled since the band’s performance on the festival stage.

We were as surprised as anyone when we saw him walking out on stage with the shirt on, Jarrett told BBC Wales, noting that festival attendees and television viewers quickly shared photos and videos of the set online. We’re still in shock and can’t thank Grian enough for the support.
