Josh Freese is set to rejoin Nine Inch Nails (NIN) on the road, with his return confirmed via a post on NIN’s Instagram Stories. the acclaimed drummer will kick off his stint with the band on August 6th in Oakland, California. This marks a significant shift for Freese, who was recently let go from his duties with the Foo Fighters.
Freese’s Departure from the Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters informed Freese that they were “going in a different direction with their drummer,” a decision for which no specific reason was provided. Freese himself shared his perspective on social media,stating,”Nonetheless,I enjoyed the past two years with them,both on and off stage,and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.” His departure from the Foo Fighters has now paved the way for his reunion with Nine Inch Nails.
Rubin’s Move to the Foo Fighters
The drumming vacancy within the Foo Fighters was filled by josh Rubin, who has been a touring member of Nine inch Nails since 2009 and was inducted with them into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Rubin had been performing with NIN on their recent European tour dates that commenced in June. However, after auditioning for and securing the Foo Fighters gig in mid-July, he informed NIN leader Trent Reznor of his decision to leave for the new prospect. This move by Rubin has consequently opened the door for Freese to reclaim the drumming position he previously held with Nine Inch Nails from 2005 to 2008.
Rubin’s Extensive Musical Career
A native of San Diego, Rubin boasts an impressive resume, having collaborated with a diverse range of artists including Angels & Airwaves, paramore, Beck, and Phantogram. He also released a solo album under the moniker The New Regime, titled Coup, in 2008.
Foo Fighters’ Upcoming Schedule
rubin will have ample time to rehearse with his new bandmates in the Foo Fighters, as their next live performance is scheduled for October 2nd in Indonesia. The band had previously canceled a number of concerts last year. More recently, on July 2nd, they released a new track titled “Today’s Song.”
