Foo Fighters have unexpectedly released a new live EP, Are Playing Where ???? vol. 1, available exclusively on bandcamp.This release follows a series of surprise club shows teh band played across the United States in september 2024.
Proceeds from the EP’s sales will benefit local charities dedicated to combating food insecurity in the cities where the concerts took place: San Luis Obispo and Santa Ana, California; Washington, D.C.; and New Haven, Connecticut. this philanthropic element underscores the band’s commitment to community support.
Recent Band Developments
The release of Are Playing Where ???? Vol. 1 comes after a period of important change for the Foo Fighters. Their moast recent studio album, But Here We Are (2023), marked the band’s first work since the passing of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
Earlier in 2024, dave Grohl and the band parted ways with Josh Freese, who had stepped in to replace Hawkins, and subsequently recruited Ilan Rubin, drummer for Nine Inch Nails. Freese then joined Nine Inch Nails.
New Music and Legacy
Prior to the EP release, Foo Fighters shared a cover of Minor Threat‘s “I Don’t Wanna Hear It” and unveiled ”Today’s Song,” their first original composition since But Here We Are.
The band’s enduring influence is highlighted by Pitchfork’s inclusion of their song “Everlong” at No. 69 on their list of The 250 Best Songs of the 1990s.
