The Foo Fighters are gearing up for a busy year, releasing their 12th studio album, Your Favorite Toy, on April 24 through Roswell/RCA. The title track is available now, offering fans a first listen to the band’s evolving sound.
Frontman Dave Grohl described “Your Favorite Toy” as the catalyst for the album’s direction, stating, “’Your Favorite Toy’ really was the key that unlocked the tone and energetic direction of the new album. We stumbled upon it after experimenting with different sounds and dynamics for over a year, and the day it took shape I knew that we had to follow its lead. It was the fuse to the powder keg of songs we wound up recording for this record. It feels new.”
The album follows 2023’s But Here We Are, which debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Your Favorite Toy marks a fresh start for the band with drummer Ilan Rubin, who joined the group last summer following the departure of Josh Freese.
The album, co-produced by the band and Oliver Roman, includes previously released tracks “Asking for a Friend” and “Unconditional.” Roman shared his enthusiasm on Instagram, praising the song’s raw energy and the collaborative effort behind it. He highlighted the contributions of each band member, from Grohl’s vocal performance to Rubin’s drumming and the guitar work of Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett. Roman wrote, “this song really inspired the sound and feel of the rest of the record and I am so proud to be a part of it. It’s raw, it’s angry, it’s in your face!!!” He further detailed the intricate musicianship involved, noting Rubin’s drumming was “not a drum machine” and praising the contributions of Nate Mendel on bass and Rami Jaffee on keyboards.
The arrival of Your Favorite Toy comes after a period of significant change for the Foo Fighters. Following the death of long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022, Grohl initially took up drum duties on But Here We Are. Freese then joined the band before being dismissed, paving the way for Rubin’s arrival and a positive reception from fans during a series of club shows.
The band will embark on a world tour this summer, beginning June 10 in Oslo, Norway. A North American stadium leg is scheduled to kick off August 4 in Toronto. The Foo Fighters also have Australian shows planned for November and will visit New Zealand in January 2027.
In a unique concert event, the band will perform with the LA Philharmonic on August 22 at the Hollywood Bowl, promising a performance drawing from their “era-defining hits accompanied by the heft and grace of one of the world’s great orchestras.”
