Possible Food Poisoning Cases Linked to Jersey Mike’s Subs in Alabama and New York

Authorities are looking into potential cases of food poisoning connected to Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants in Alabama and New York. Reports surfaced earlier this week detailing symptoms of nausea and diarrhea following meals at the chain.

One incident involved a couple dining at a Jersey Mike’s Subs location in Madison, Alabama, at February 25, 2026. According to a report submitted to IWasPoisoned.com, both individuals experienced severe symptoms after consuming different subs. One customer ordered a jerk turkey sub with pepper jack cheese, bacon, and various dressings, while the other had an “ultimate” sub with lettuce, onion, and jalapeños. Both reported experiencing “terrible nausea and diarrhea” hours after eating.

The Alabama location is situated at

350 Hughes Rd, Madison, AL 35758

.

Another reported case originates from LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York, specifically at Jersey Mike’s Subs within Terminal C. Details surrounding this incident are limited, but it adds to the growing concern regarding potential contamination within the franchise.

A separate post on Reddit detailed a hospitalization in Asheville, North Carolina, potentially linked to Jersey Mike’s food poisoning. While this incident is geographically distinct from the Alabama and New York cases, it contributes to a pattern of reported illnesses.

The Alabama Department of Public Health is responsible for the inspection and regulation of food establishments within the state. The Department’s Division of Food, Milk and Lodging (FML) issues enforcement actions when immediate health hazards are identified or when establishments fail to comply with regulations. Establishments are required to cease operations under specific circumstances, including interruptions in essential services like electricity or water, lack of refrigeration, sewage backups, or the onset of a suspected foodborne illness outbreak.

According to the Department, operations cannot resume until an inspection confirms that conditions posing an imminent health risk no longer exist. The Department has been actively monitoring food establishment closures and enforcement actions within the last 90 days, though specific details regarding Jersey Mike’s locations were not immediately available.

The Department encourages anyone suspecting foodborne illness to contact the Environmental Office of their local county health department to verify the current status of any establishment. The Department issues enforcement actions where immediate hazards exist or where compliance is not obtained voluntarily.

an establishment is required to immediately cease operations in the event of extended interruption of electrical or water service, complete lack of refrigeration, complete lack of hot water, sewage backup, misuse of poisonous or toxic materials, onset of an apparent foodborne illness outbreak, or other circumstance that may endanger public health, including an inspection score of less than sixty.

VisualFoodie.com has published a 2026 guide to help individuals identify symptoms, take immediate action, and learn how to report suspected food poisoning from Jersey Mike’s and other establishments.
