Football|The Jockey Club supports the development of Chinese football and helps the youth championship champion to go to the Manchester United base to “promote”
The Hong Kong Jockey Club has partnered with Manchester United to create the “Hong Kong Jockey Club Youth Football Training Camp in the UK.” The first team to join this program is the Hubei Provincial Football Association U15 team, which won the 2024 Chinese Football Association Youth Football Championship for the U15 Group. They traveled to the UK for a football training camp in October.
During their three-week stay, the Hubei U15 team participated in training courses run by Manchester United. They played friendly matches against the Manchester United U16 team and interacted with local youth football teams, completing a total of six matches. The team also visited Manchester United’s home stadium, Old Trafford, and the club’s museum. Additionally, they watched home games of both the men’s team and the youth team.
The Hubei U15 team attended the Premier League U16 national championship and trained at St. George’s Park, the training base for the England national team, where they received coaching from the English Football Association.

Exclusive Interview: Insights from Football Development Specialist on the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Manchester United Partnership
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us. With the recent collaboration between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Manchester United to create the “Hong Kong Jockey Club Youth Football Training Camp in the UK,” what does this mean for youth football development in Hong Kong and beyond?
Specialist: Thank you for having me. This partnership marks a significant milestone in youth football development. It provides aspiring young players, like the Hubei Provincial Football Association U15 team, with unparalleled access to world-class training and facilities. Training alongside Manchester United’s coaches and players at their iconic grounds enhances their skills and offers invaluable experience.
Interviewer: The Hubei U15 team recently returned from a three-week training camp in the UK. What benefits do you see from such an experience for the players?
Specialist: The benefits are multifaceted. Firstly, exposure to a different footballing culture broadens their understanding of the game. Engaging in friendly matches with local teams helps them apply what they’ve learned in a competitive environment. Additionally, training at St. George’s Park, the England national team’s base, provides an elite training experience that few young players get to experience.
Interviewer: The team interacted with local youth teams and participated in numerous matches. How does this camaraderie with international peers enhance their development?
Specialist: Interacting with local youth teams fosters sportsmanship and teamwork among players. It allows them to witness different playing styles and strategies, ultimately broadening their tactical understanding. Such experiences can also inspire them and provide a broader perspective on their roles both on and off the pitch.
Interviewer: The Hong Kong Jockey Club and Manchester United have been collaborating since 2012. How has this long-term partnership influenced youth football initiatives in Hong Kong?
Specialist: The longevity of this partnership has allowed for sustainable programs focused on nurturing young talent in Hong Kong. It has introduced structured training camps and coaching resources, significantly raising the standard of youth football in the region. By hosting annual camps, they ensure ongoing development and inspiration for young players, creating a pipeline of talent that could benefit local clubs and even the national team.
Interviewer: What can we expect from future initiatives tied to this partnership, particularly regarding the camps planned for Western China?
Specialist: The upcoming camps in Western China signal an exciting expansion of their outreach. They will likely replicate the success observed in Hong Kong, bringing the same level of expertise and resources to a broader audience. These initiatives will not only develop individual player skills but also strengthen grassroots football across the region, encouraging more youth participation in this sport.
Interviewer: Lastly, how important is the establishment of a special fund for these training camps, and what impact might it have on future youth players?
Specialist: A dedicated fund is crucial as it provides the necessary financial backing to sustain these initiatives. It allows for continued investment in training facilities, coaching, and equipment, ensuring that young players have access to the resources they need to thrive. This financial support is a game-changer for youth football development, as it creates a more level playing field and opens doors for talented individuals who might otherwise lack the opportunity.
Interviewer: Thank you for your valuable insights on this exciting partnership and its impact on youth football.
Specialist: My pleasure. It’s a thrilling time for youth football, and I look forward to seeing these young players flourish in their careers.
