Soccer Hopeful Ordered to Pay Compensation for Threatening Phone Calls
Cork, Ireland – A promising young soccer player facing a bright future with a semi-professional Welsh club has been ordered to compensate a man he threatened with menacing phone calls.
Issa Kargbo, 23, appeared before judge Mary dorgan at Cork District Court. He had been charged with sending obscene and menacing messages between March 19 and 26,2022,in violation of the Post Office Act.The court heard a victim impact statement detailing the profound impact the threats had on the victim’s life.
“I am least of all entitled to live my life without threats but most importantly without the burden of having to worry about my personal safety and wellbeing,” the victim stated.
He described feeling compelled to leave his job and alter his daily routines due to the fear and anxiety caused by Kargbo’s actions.
Kargbo’s solicitor, killian McCarthy, informed the court that his client had returned to Cork from Wales specifically to address the charges. He revealed that Kargbo was on the verge of signing a contract with a semi-professional football club, with an estimated weekly salary of around €600.
Judge Dorgan acknowledged Kargbo’s promising career but emphasized the severity of the victim’s experience.
“Professional football — or semi-professional — is really very good but meanwhile back at the ranch there is the victim impact. He needs to pay compensation,” Judge Dorgan stated.
Sentencing was adjourned until March 27 to allow Kargbo time to raise the necessary compensation.
