2026 Ford Explorer Active Offers Tech and Comfort Features

The 2026 Ford Explorer Active, with the 100A package and rear-wheel drive, aims to blend capability with a starting MSRP of $40,260. The vehicle boasts a range of features focused on technology, safety, and comfort, positioning itself as a competitive option in the mid-size SUV market.

Under the hood, the Explorer Active is powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 300 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 310 lb-ft of torque at 3500 RPM. The engine utilizes gasoline direct injection and requires premium unleaded fuel. The vehicle is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission, featuring gear ratios ranging from 4.71:1 in first gear to 0.85:1 in eighth, and a reverse ratio of 4.88:1. The final drive axle ratio is 3.58:1.

Ford has integrated several technology features into the 2026 Explorer Active. A prominent 13.2-inch LCD touchscreen serves as the central hub for infotainment, complemented by a 12.3-inch LCD digital cluster for the driver. The vehicle includes 5G modem connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The Ford Digital Experience, powered by Google Maps and the Google Play Store, is also standard. A premium audio experience is provided by an AM/FM stereo system with six speakers and SiriusXM with 360L.

Safety is a key focus, with the inclusion of Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+, which bundles a suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies. Standard safety features include AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC), dual-stage front airbags, front seat-mounted side impact airbags, a safety canopy system, an airbag for the driver’s knee, and the Personal Safety System. Additional safety features include the LATCH child safety system, a perimeter alarm, and the SOS Post-Crash Alert System. An individual tire pressure monitoring system is also included.

The Explorer Active offers a comfortable and convenient interior. Front row seats are heated, and the driver’s seat is power adjustable. Tri-zone electronic temperature control ensures passenger comfort, while a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with wheel-mounted controls provides an enhanced driving experience. USB-C ports are available in all rows. The third row features 50/50 fold-flat capability, increasing cargo space when needed. Dual illuminated vanity mirrors are also included.

Exterior features include Class III Trailer Tow Package availability, auto LED headlamps, power liftgate, privacy glass on the rear doors, and a body-color rear spoiler. The mirrors are dual power heated with approach lamps and a manual folding function. Roof-rack side rails in black complete the exterior styling. Trailer Sway Control is also included as a standard feature.

Several optional packages are available, including the Ford Connectivity Package (with one year included), the Active Comfort Package, and the Class III Trailer Tow Package. The Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is also available as an option, though it is already included as standard. The Active (200A) package is also offered.

The 2026 Ford Explorer Active has a fuel tank capacity of 17.9 gallons and an EPA estimated combined fuel economy of 24 mpg, with 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The vehicle’s range is estimated at 358 miles in the city and 519.10 miles on the highway. The EPA Greenhouse Gas Score is 5.0, with CO2 emissions of 7.3 tons per 15,000 miles.

With a wheelbase of 119.1 inches and an overall length of 198.8 inches, the Explorer Active offers a spacious interior with a total passenger volume of 152.9 cubic feet. Front passengers benefit from 40.7 inches of headroom and 43 inches of legroom. The vehicle’s minimum ground clearance is 7.6 inches.
