Foreign Flop: Two Imports Combine for Just 9 Points and 7 Rebounds, Jeonggwanjang’s Woes Continue
[점프볼=울산/홍성한 기자] They showed their courage and achieved a come-from-behind victory, but their worries deepened.
Anyang Jeonggwanjang won 72-71 in an away game against Ulsan Hyundai Mobis in the 2024-2025 KCC professional basketball regular league held at Ulsan Dongcheon Gymnasium on the 2nd.
Jeong Kwan Jang created a close game with Park Ji-hoon (23 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals) and Bae Byung-jun (19 points, 4 3-pointers, 2 rebounds) playing well, and soon overcame the odds. Jeong Kwan-Jang, who escaped two consecutive losses, succeeded in turning the atmosphere around.
However, the scoring of foreign players was still disappointing. Cady Lahren (3 points, 3 rebounds) and Michael Young (6 points, 4 rebounds) failed to score even 10 points.
Before the game, coach Kim Sang-sik said of the foreign players, “I hope they will play under the goal. I keep trying to come out. Even when matched up with domestic players after the opponent uses a switch defense, he shoots from the outside. If you do that, you won’t be able to rebound and there will be a lot of problems. I keep trying to show it. “The score has to come from inside,” he said.

However, Director Kim’s wish did not come true. Young played 9 minutes longer than Laren (15 minutes 45 seconds), at 24 minutes and 15 seconds, and four of the nine field goal attempts, or nearly half, were attempted from outside the goal. Even this was all a failure. The same was true for Laren. Of the 6 field goal attempts, only 1 hit the rim. There were three mid-range shot attempts, but all of them missed the rim.
With the foreign players out, it was natural that they were inferior in rebounds (29-43). After the game, Coach Kim said, “Foreign players need to work harder even though they won. He sent the message, “For the game to go well, you have to work hard starting with the bad things, such as rebounding and blocking shots.”
Coach Kim delayed the introduction of Lahren even though Young was in foul trouble, committing three fouls in the third quarter alone. Regarding this, Director Kim said, “There was no big reason. Since Laren doesn’t show anything directly, it may seem lacking. But I think we did a good job in the end,” he explained.
Park Ji-hoon, who is playing on the court with him, said of foreign players, “I believe they will get better little by little. He plays very hard on defense. These are not styles that cause a lot of complaints. Communication is going well. “If we continue to talk and work together, good results will come,” he said.
