The reversal occurred amid increased risk aversion in international markets, largely driven by the aggressive trade policies of U.S. President Donald Trump and lower interest rates in Mexico, which diminished the appeal of local instruments to foreign investors.
Data from the Bank of Mexico (BdeM) shows that foreign investors held 1.832 trillion 178 million pesos in Mexican government debt at the close of 2024. By December 31, 2025, that figure decreased to 1.739 trillion 824 million pesos.
