In a statement addressed to the president of the Government of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, the former directors criticized Person, stating his words contravene the policy and foundational missions
of the delegation in Perpignan.The statement further alleges that person’s supposed institutional neutrality
demonstrates arrogance and ignorance,
damaging the work done by Catalan governments since the delegation’s creation.
The former directors, Enric Pujol i Casademont, Jordi Fernández-Cuadnch, Joan Gaubí, Josep Puigbert i Punset, and Alfons Quera and Carré, who served from 2004 to 2024, urged Illa to ensure the delegation continues the missions for which it was founded: the promotion of Catalan language and culture and the strengthening of relations between north and South-Catalan, through the feeling of catalanity that unites us.
The statement also references Person’s remarks made Thursday before the Institutional Affairs Commission of the Catalan Chamber, where he stated that the official denomination must be respected, and in this case it is Eastern Pyrenees.
