Former ​Rugby‌ Players Sentenced ⁢in French rape Case

Bordeaux, France – A former irish rugby international has been sentenced to 14 years ​in prison for the rape of a woman in Bordeaux in 2017. Denis Coulson, who ​represented ‌Ireland​ at the U20 level and played professionally for Connacht and Stade ⁤Français, was one of five rugby players convicted in the case.The verdict, delivered Friday by the⁣ Cour d’Asisses in Bordeaux, also saw Chris Farrell, a member of Ireland’s 2018 Six Nations Grand Slam-winning squad,⁤ receive a four-year sentence with two⁤ years suspended for failure‍ to prevent a crime. Farrell will not be imprisoned but will be required to wear an electronic tag for two years and remain in ​France.

The case‍ involved a‌ group of former teammates from FC‌ Grenoble. Loick⁣ Jammes, a 30-year-old French national, was found guilty of rape and‌ sentenced to 14 years. Rory Grice, a 34-year-old ‌from New Zealand, received a 12-year sentence for rape. another New Zealander, 30-year-old ‌Dylan Hayes, was given a two-year⁤ suspended sentence for failure to prevent a crime.

All five defendants had denied ⁣the ⁣charges against them.
