Former Lebanon Central Bank Chief Riyad Salameh in the Crosshairs: Arrest Warrant Issued After Grilling
Former Lebanese Governor Riyad Salameh’s Trial Begins Amid Financial Crimes Allegations
Beirut’s Acting First Investigating Judge, Bilal Halawi, issued an arrest warrant for Hakim, former Riyad Salama, after his interrogation session ended, and another session was scheduled for Thursday.
Salama’s first trial was held last week after he was detained and charged with financial crimes, including theft of government funds.

Amid chants of condemnation, the former governor of the Bank of Lebanon, Riyad Salameh, arrived at the Justice Palace in Beirut for the first session since he was detained last week and charged with financial crimes, including theft of government funds.

Salama’s media office confirmed that he would not comment publicly on the case in accordance with the law. The office added in a statement that Salameh previously cooperated in more than 20 criminal investigations in Beirut and Mount Lebanon and has been cooperating with investigations since his arrest.

The charges brought against Salama last week are separate from earlier allegations of financial crimes linked to Fourie Associates, a company owned by Raja Salama, the brother of the former governor of the Bank of Lebanon.
The brothers were accused of taking advantage of Fury to embezzle $330 million in public funds in the form of commissions. The brothers deny any wrongdoing.

Salameh’s trial is a significant development in the ongoing investigation into financial crimes in Lebanon, and it is expected to shed light on the extent of corruption and embezzlement in the country’s banking sector.

The trial is also seen as a test of the Lebanese judiciary’s ability to hold high-ranking officials accountable for their actions, and it is being closely watched by the public and the international community.
