NHL Veteran Richard Pánik Heads to Russia’s KHL

Former NHL winger Richard Pánik is continuing his European hockey journey, signing with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
Pánik, 33, began the season with HC Slovan Bratislava in his native Slovakia, where he tallied six goals and 13 points in 18 games. The move to the KHL represents a step up in competition for the veteran forward.
Pánik last played in the NHL with the New York Islanders during the 2021-22 season. He enjoyed a breakout season with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2016-17, scoring 20 goals. As than, Pánik has remained productive, posting solid numbers in the Czech Extraliga last season with HC Oceláři Třinec and HC Dynamo Pardubice (20 goals, 34 points in 51 games).
Originally a second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2009, Pánik has carved out a journeyman career, suiting up for seven NHL teams over 10 seasons. He amassed 195 points in 521 NHL games with the Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Washington Capitals, detroit Red Wings, and Islanders.
Pánik’s european odyssey has seen him play for five different teams as 2022, showcasing his adaptability and desire to continue playing at a high level.
