Former Northshore Gymnastics Coach Indicted on Child Molestation Charges

A former Northshore gymnastics coach was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of molestation of a juvenile, according to an announcement made Wednesday by District Attorney Collin Sims. According to WWL Louisiana, the case involves two alleged victims and spans multiple years.

According to the Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, a mother spotted what she suspected were improper text messages sent by Mejia to her daughter’s phone during 2024. According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the mother initially reported the texts in 2025, but investigators found insufficient probable cause to make an arrest at that time.

The case progressed in 2026 when the complainant returned with additional information, prompting authorities to execute an arrest. Mejia subsequently posted bond and was released from custody following that initial arrest four months prior to the recent grand jury indictment.

Employment Timeline Across Northshore Facilities

According to WWL Louisiana, the owner of North Shore Gymnastics confirmed that Mejia worked at the Mandeville facility from 2010 until August of 2024. The gym owner stated that Mejia was fired after a parent brought inappropriate communication to management’s attention.

Following his departure from North Shore Gymnastics, multiple sources told WWL Louisiana that Mejia secured employment at Cypress Pointe Gymnastics in Ponchatoula. One parent reported seeing Mejia coach her daughter at Cypress Pointe as early as January of 2025 and continuing through the week of his arrest.

When reporters reached out following the arrest, an office worker at Cypress Pointe declined to comment. The facility later released a statement on its official Facebook page confirming that management terminated Mejia as soon as they learned of the investigation and arrest.

Grand Jury Indictment Charges and Legal Status

According to the district attorney’s office release, the grand jury formally indicted Mejia on two specific counts. The first charge is molestation of a juvenile involving control or supervision (Recurring Over One Year), covering alleged incidents from 2020 to 2024.

The second count involves molestation of a juvenile involving control or supervision allegedly taking place between 2022 and 2023 involving a second, separate juvenile. District Attorney Collin Sims emphasized the gravity of the charges in an official statement.
