Formula 1 Round 9 Post Feature Race Press Conference
Lindblad capitalizes on Chaos for Budapest Podium, Stanek Secures Maiden Feature Race Top-Three
Budapest, Hungary - Oliver Lindblad secured a hard-fought podium finish in a dramatic FIA Formula 2 feature Race at the Hungaroring, while Roman Stanek claimed his first top-three result of the season in a race characterized by challenging conditions and strategic battles.
Lindblad, who started from a strong grid position, found himself in a tense battle for the podium spots. He detailed the difficulty of overtaking on the tight Hungarian circuit, even when possessing a pace advantage. “I saw from the first thing that it was,it’s not easy to pass,” Lindblad explained. “Even wiht Victor, I was quite a lot quicker, and I really struggled to get through. And I knew when I saw Ritomo and Roman fighting that that was an prospect to try to capitalise, and I needed to make the move stick. So yeah, it was really good to get the move done on Roman at that point, and definitely helped help my race to go forward.”
The British driver acknowledged the importance of this result following a recent run of challenging races. “It’s not been good. The last few rounds, we’ve struggled a lot as a team, so I knew that this here in Budapest is going to be crucial to stay in in the fight,” he stated. “I mean, you said Alex got bit of a lead now, so it’s a bit difficult towards him, but at least for second is still very close. So yeah,it was crucial, and I think today shows that. But we need to keep this, keep this up now.”
Stanek Navigates Tricky Conditions for Breakthrough Podium
Roman Stanek, starting from third, maintained his position to secure a maiden Feature Race podium.Despite the static finishing order, Stanek described a race filled with unpredictable elements. ”Yeah, it was very fun. Actually, at one point we couldn’t see anything in and up to Turn 5 because it started to rain more,” he commented. “But it was nice. the conditions for the drivers where changing a lot. Also with the tyres, it was very hard to manage. Maybe one lap you had understeer. The other one, you pushed just a bit more, and the car went completely to oversteer. So yeah, it was all about managing the tyres and being focused.Because here, in spite is a very long lap, you know, very hard corners, so you have to really be focused on driving. But yeah, really enjoyed it.”
Stanek also reflected on a tense moment where he challenged for the lead shortly after Alex Palou’s pit stop. “I left him maybe a bit too much space, to be honest. But also at the same time, when I went out of the box,I immediately had the tyres in the window, and I think that was a bit of an advantage, that he could actually attack me,his tyres were not cold because they work very well in the wet, especially the first laps. But yeah, maybe I could have been a bit more aggressive, but didn’t want to crash simultaneously occurring.”
This podium marks a significant upturn in form for Stanek, following two consecutive third-place finishes in the sprint Races.”Yeah, happy, obviously a bit late, struggling a bit in the first part of the season, bit unlucky, did a lot of mistakes. So yeah, hopefully, we can start off from here and go on to Budapest,” he concluded.
The strong performances from both Lindblad and Stanek highlight the unpredictable nature of Formula 2 racing and set the stage for an exciting remainder of the season.
