Lucas Forsell is reportedly nearing a move from Färjestad BK to SHL rivals Timrå IK. According to reporting from Expressen, the 22-year-old forward is in advanced negotiations with the club for the 2026/27 season.

The development follows a period of limited ice time for Forsell at Färjestad. In the regular season, his average ice time was under ten minutes per game, resulting in ten points across 50 appearances.

Expressen reports that exit interviews began on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, following Färjestad’s elimination in the quarterfinals by Rögle. Sources indicate it has already been decided that Forsell will not remain with the club.

Negotiations and Future Role

Timrå IK is described as the primary destination for the right-winger. Expressen states that Forsell and his representative are in late-stage talks, and an agreement is expected shortly provided no unforeseen circumstances arise.

Timrå views Forsell as a player capable of slotting into the top nine of their lineup, with the potential to eventually assume a leading role within the team.

When questioned about his future a week prior to these reports, Forsell remained guarded, stating I have a contract with Färjestad, so I know nothing about that. So I neither want nor can I comment more on that.

Conflicting Reports and Club Stance

The potential move comes after a period of conflicting information regarding Forsell’s status. Previously, Expressen had reported that both Timrå and Luleå had expressed interest in the forward if he became available for a transfer.

Färjestad’s sports director, Rickard Wallin, had previously denied that the club intended to let the player go. Speaking to Värmlands Folkblad, Wallin dismissed the reports as media-driven speculation.

It’s not in any way that we are looking to let him go… We still believe in Lucas

Rickard Wallin

Wallin acknowledged that Forsell may have been disappointed by his lack of playing time but maintained that the club did not believe the player had stalled in his development. He noted that in a roster of approximately 13.5 forwards, it is inevitable that some players will spend time on the sidelines.

Contractual Context

Forsell’s current contract with Färjestad runs through the 2026/2027 season. However, recent reports suggest the agreement will not be fulfilled due to the player’s limited role and the desire for more ice time.

Despite the struggles with consistent ice time, Forsell has shown flashes of productivity. On September 16, 2025, he scored a goal in a 6–2 victory against the Malmö Redhawks, contributing to an early 3–0 lead for Färjestad.

The move to Timrå would represent a strategic shift for the 22-year-old, moving from a depth role at Färjestad to a projected top-nine position with a direct competitor in the SHL.
