Fortnite Refunds: deadline Extended for Unwanted Purchases
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reopened the claim process for Fortnite refunds,giving players another chance too recoup money spent on unwanted in-game purchases. This follows previous refunds totaling over $198 million to players who were charged for items they didn’t intend to buy.
The FTC initially took action against Epic Games, Fortnite’s developer, over allegations of using deceptive practices, or “dark patterns,” to trick players into making unintended purchases. They also cited issues with unauthorized charges made by children without parental consent. Epic games was ordered to pay $245 million in refunds and a $275 million penalty for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection act.
Epic Games issued a statement in 2022, acknowledging the need to adapt to evolving player expectations and regulatory standards within the rapidly changing video game industry.
Who is Eligible for a Fortnite Refund?
You might potentially be eligible for a Fortnite refund if:
- You were charged in-game currency for unwanted items between January 2017 and September 2022.
- Your child made unauthorized charges on your credit card between January 2017 and November 2018.
- You were locked out of your account after disputing wrongful charges with your credit card company between january 2017 and September 2022.
Players of all ages are eligible, but those under 18 require a parent or guardian to file the claim. Currently, only U.S. residents are eligible for refunds.
