Brosnan and Garde: Pillars of Cork’s Defense
The formidable half-back line of Michael Tadhg Brosnan, captain Bobby Carroll, and Colm Garde was instrumental in Cork’s success throughout the Electric Ireland Munster MHC. While Carroll narrowly missed out on a team selection spot too Clare’s dara Kennedy, Brosnan and Garde’s consistent excellence saw them rightfully acknowledged for their impactful displays.
Both hurlers were part of the Cork minor setup in 2024. Brosnan, representing Glen Rovers, showcased his versatility by adopting a more attacking role in the previous year. His strategic repositioning to the half-back line for the current campaign allowed Cork to leverage his exceptional aerial ability and powerful running. brosnan proved to be a significant scoring threat, contributing three points in the semi-final loss.
On the opposite flank, Garde, who had previously impressed for Midleton in the dr. Harty Cup (an U19 competition), was central to Cork’s defensive structure. His ability to consistently get his hand to dropping balls was a hallmark of his game. When Cork needed moments of inspiration during the championship, the Lisgoold native was often the player to deliver.
Attacking Prowess and Key Contributions
While the half-back line anchored Cork’s efforts, the attack also boasted a talented array of players who stepped up at different stages. Callum Coffey was particularly noteworthy, scoring three crucial goals in the round-robin victory against Clare in Tulla.
Ruairc donovan also made a significant impact, and Sam Ring provided a game-changing intervention from the bench in the Munster final. Though, for consistent overall performance, Cormac Deane of Killeagh earned a place in the team of the season. The son of the legendary Joe, Deane’s standout performance included an extraordinary eight points from play in the home win against Waterford. He also added a goal in the All-Ireland semi-final and was unlucky not to score another.
Unlucky to miss out on a spot was Deane’s half-forward line colleague, Craig O’Sullivan. O’Sullivan was a highly reliable free-taker and consistently delivered vital scores throughout the campaign.
