Venus Williams Returns to American Courts at ATX Open

– Former Wimbledon champion Venus Williams is set to compete in the ATX Open in Austin, Texas, marking her first American tournament appearance since the 2025 US Open.

The 45-year-old Williams, currently ranked No. 145 in the world, will participate in the event later this month, according to reports. This return to American soil comes as Williams continues her remarkable career, which has included seven Grand Slam singles titles – five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open – and a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

British tennis player Fran Jones recently had the opportunity to practice with Williams at the ATX Open. Jones shared a message following the session, expressing her appreciation for the experience. Details of Jones’ message were not immediately available.

Williams’ career has spanned decades, amassing 49 WTA Tour-level singles titles and over $42.8 million in prize money, placing her fourth in all-time rankings for women. She turned professional in October 1994 and achieved the world No. 1 ranking on February 25, 2002.

Beyond her singles success, Williams has also excelled in doubles, reaching the No. 1 ranking in June 2010 and securing 22 WTA Tour-level doubles titles. She has won multiple Grand Slam titles in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles, including a gold medal in doubles at the 2000 and 2008 Olympic Games, and the 2012 Olympic Games.

Currently coached by Diego Ayala, Williams’ participation in the ATX Open signals her continued commitment to competitive tennis. While her current ranking of 549th in singles reflects a shift from her peak form, her presence in the draw is expected to draw significant attention to the tournament.

Williams’ Grand Slam record includes reaching the final of the Australian Open in 2003 and 2017, and the French Open in 2002. Her Wimbledon triumphs came in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2008, while she won the US Open in 2000 and 2001. She also secured a Grand Slam Cup win in 1998 and the Tour Finals title in 2008.

The ATX Open will provide Williams with a platform to showcase her enduring skill and competitive spirit as she continues to navigate the challenges of professional tennis. Her return to American competition is anticipated with enthusiasm by fans and fellow players alike.
