France’s Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs released a statement urging an immediate cessation of hostilities and calling on both parties too return to negotiations. The statement emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians and ensure humanitarian access to those affected by the violence.
“France deplores the resumption of clashes in Sudan,” the Ministry stated. “This escalation risks further destabilizing the country and exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation.”
The conflict has already resulted in over 13,000 deaths and more than 6.3 million people displaced, both internally and as refugees in neighboring countries, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as of December 2025. The renewed fighting threatens to derail ongoing efforts to mediate a peaceful resolution.
