A wedding celebration turned deadly near Avignon, France, when masked gunmen opened fire, killing the bride. The violent crime occurred in the village of Goult,prompting a large-scale manhunt.
The bride, 27, was shot as she and the 25-year-old groom left their wedding party around 4:30 a.m. local time Sunday. The groom and a 13-year-old were seriously wounded. One of the attackers died during the incident, possibly struck during an exchange of gunfire, according to Avignon prosecutor Florence Galtier.
Dozens of officers and a helicopter are involved in the search for the remaining suspects,who fled on foot after arriving by car. Authorities are investigating the murder and attempted murder, with French media suggesting a possible connection to drug-related score-settling.
Local Mayor Didier Perello expressed outrage, noting the hall was booked in March by individuals from outside the community. “I’m outraged,” Perello saeid.”We’re close to towns, I won’t name them, where regrettably, we’ve seen this kind of thing before.”
