France: Woman Arrested After Newborns Found Frozen in Home

A 50-year-old French woman has been detained in connection with the discovery of the bodies of two newborn babies in a freezer at a home in eastern France. The case, unfolding in the small town of Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont, has shocked the local community and prompted a wide-ranging investigation.

According to sources close to the investigation, the woman, who has nine children from two relationships, confessed to concealing her pregnancies and freezing the infants shortly after birth, between 2011 and 2018. The investigation is being jointly conducted by the research brigades of Lure and Besançon. Authorities sealed off the family home, a single-story building with an open gate, as forensic teams continued their work. The prosecutor’s office in Vesoul has transferred the case to Besançon, given the severity of the alleged crimes.
