Mexico City, Mexico – In a surprising announcement, Francisco Garduño Yáñez, Commissioner of the National Migration Institute (INM), revealed Friday will be his last day leading the agency. Garduño stated his plans to visit “La Chingada,” a ranch in Palenque, Chiapas, owned by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Speaking after the National Assembly of the Mexican Social security Institute (IMSS), Garduño confirmed that Sergio Salomón, the outgoing governor of Puebla, is expected to take over the INM in the coming days.He expressed confidence in Salomón’s ability to handle the role.
Garduño highlighted the immense challenges faced by the INM, stating they have assisted over 14 million migrants entering Mexico – a number exceeding the population of Mexico City. He characterized the situation as a “humanitarian crisis,” an “anthropological crisis,” and an “economic crisis,” emphasizing the agency’s commitment to following President Biden’s directives.
when questioned about his future plans, Garduño confirmed his intention to visit “La Chingada” to see his “friend” López Obrador.
Addressing criticism regarding his management of the INM, Garduño dismissed his detractors, suggesting they lack understanding of migration issues. He specifically targeted human rights and migration organizations, alleging some profit from the situation and even accusing the father of migrant rights activist Father Alejandro Solalinde of being “the chicken farmer of God.”
Garduño further criticized Solalinde, accusing him of promoting migrant caravans and lamenting the treatment migrants receive while failing to offer solutions.
Migrant Influx Strains Border City Resources, Officials Say
Ciudad Juárez, Mexico – The massive influx of migrants seeking asylum in the United States is putting a significant strain on resources in border cities like Ciudad Juárez, according to local officials.
“Peopel complain about insecurity here, but they say they’re coming as of the insecurity in their own countries,” said [Name of Official], [Title]. ”So, the fact that 14 million migrants have crossed [border] has made it very difficult to attend to this population.”
The official’s comments highlight the challenges faced by border communities grappling with the humanitarian crisis. The influx has overwhelmed shelters and social services, stretching resources thin.
The situation was further complicated by a tragic fire at a migrant detention center in Ciudad Juárez in March, which claimed the lives of 40 people.
[Name of Official] stated that reparations have been paid to the families of 40 of the deceased and to the 27 injured in the fire.”Only six families remain, who have private lawyers and refuse to accept the compensation,” they explained. “This compensation has ranged from a minimum of 3 million to a maximum of 7 million [Mexican Pesos].”
The official emphasized their commitment to fulfilling court orders and providing justice for those affected.
Garduño Out, Heads to AMLO’s Ranch Amid Migrant Crisis
